Wall stickers

Tags:

a few months ago, there were these really cryptic commercials for something called a "fathead." the commercial didn't really explain what a "fathead" was, only that this guy really wanted one.

so, come to find out that a "fathead" is a really giant sports-themed wall sticker. they have one of big papi, lebron, tiger, nascars, etc.

i couldn't imagine any grown man that would a) really want one of those for his wall or b) be allowed to have one by his wife/husband/children.

having said that, these are more tasteful, but do people with design sense really value them over, say, a nice wallpaper, paneling or paint job? i ask innocently: i have no design sense.

I think they're cool, though I would worry about visible seams and air bubbles; it's hard to tell from the pictures how effective these are in real life. Flea is well known for good design sense, so I'd say yes, people with taste fancy them.

I used to have sport figure wall stickers in my childhood bedroom, which I got from Sports Illustrated for Kids. I think I had David Robinson and one other player, maybe Tim Hardaway.

It would be better if they had inverse wall stickers. You'd stick it to the wall without worrying too much about bubbles or seams, and then paint the negative space whatever color you wanted. It would be a big stencil.

Sort of like a gobo.

There's no reason you can't make those yourself.

I was actually considering making them myself, since $45-$105 is clearly way too much for a sticker.

i think the value would be in their claim that it's easy-on and EASY-OFF being the crucial issue w/ stickers.

also, some of them are fairly intricate, AND I DOUBT DOABLE W/O LASER CUTTER oops or some seriously hot razor skills, which lorelei you S&M freak, i have no doubt you possess.

also, the monk and i have deemed them too pricey to garnish our walls, but i like the ikea-like idea of chic design for moderate prices, or bold graphic design for the upper-middle class, anyway.

Are you going to spend money on paint, though? Isn't it more or less equivalent, considering you have to paint when you leave?

Also, does Flea scorn editing or something?

she was about to board a plane, so i doubt editing was the first thing on her mind.

also, we already painted, and the landlord is paying for the supplies.

Can I borrow your landlord?

Jesse | Thu, 10/11/2007 - 6:17pm

indeed, i scorn muchly, at random.
