Two more Tolkein films coming from New Line and Peter Jackson

It looks like New Line and Peter Jackson have finally made nice, because they just announced (along with MGM) the simultaneous production of two films based on The Hobbit and other ancillary Tolkein material. (The director is still unannounced.) Make it in 3D!

That's a good point, but it also brings up a question -- what if it was written in Australia by Australians? Are they part of the WGA for working with an American studio?

I was under the impression that during the last strike the studios brought in writers from England. Since they're currently not under contract with the WGA, I'd imagine they could hire whatever writers are willing to work for them at whatever wages they're willing to work for.
