Jim Emerson slams Southland Tales:
Part of me questions whether it's even worth writing about, mainly because it offers so little of cinematic interest. It's fussy and inert, like Part 4 of a PowerPoint slide-show based on some elaborately drawn storyboards that explain in excruciating detail the minutiae of the mythology behind "Hudson Hawk."
Harsh, and it gets worse from there. Will I drag myself to see this mess? (10) #12/5/2007

Another interesting analytical post from film blogger (and rogerebert.com editor) Jim Emerson, this one on No Country for Old Men, the Coen brothers adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel. I saw it this past weekend and thought it was excellent, although I thought the ending suffered a bit from its disparate tone.

Jim Emerson, web editor of rogerebert.com and blogger, has put up an Opening Shots Quiz on his blog. The idea is this: name the film based on a still image of its opening shot. If you do really well at it, try the other quiz, which is much harder.
