It looks like New Line and Peter Jackson have finally made nice, because they just announced (along with MGM) the simultaneous production of two films based on The Hobbit and other ancillary Tolkein material. (The director is still unannounced.) Make it in 3D! (6) #

It looks like Peter Jackson won't be involved with New Line's production of The Hobbit. The nerd in me mourns the loss of a director who actually cares about the source material; the cynic optimist in me is hoping that his replacement makes a subtler film with a less bombastic score (but is nevertheless dreading something even worse). (0) #
