Tom McCarthy directing "Game of Thrones" pilot
Crooked journalist from The Wire to direct fantasy TV show pilot! Less sensationally, Tom McCarthy -- director of The Station Agent and The Visitor and the guy who played Scott Templeton on The Wire -- is directing the pilot of Game of Thrones, the fantasy series based on the books of George R. R. Martin coming to HBO.

First off, those are two great films. Secondly, I had no idea the same person did those movies. And Third, I can't believe Templeton wrote and directed them. His Wire character was so good that whenever I see him in movies I hate him.
Yeah, I first made the connection when I was watching the DVD extras for The Visitor. There was an interview with the director that I watched after viewing the film, and I stood up and said: "That's Scott Templeton!" I was very excited. Then Richard Jenkins's casting made more sense.
that guy was also on the first season of Boston Public. when i saw "the station agent" i had to do a double-take and couldn't believe it was the same guy. funny how we pigeonhole actors: he was a doofy gym teacher on BP, so of course he couldn't have directed a great indie film.
When is Game of Thrones coming out? It's an exceedingly plodding series, but I'm curious where HBO thinks it's going with it.
