Scalia and 24
Nothing scares me more than Supreme Court Justice Scalia using the example of 24's Jack Bauer to support his positions:
The conservative jurist stuck up for Agent Bauer, arguing that fictional or not, federal agents require latitude in times of great crisis. "Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles. ... He saved hundreds of thousands of lives," Judge Scalia said. "Are you going to convict Jack Bauer?" Judge Scalia challenged his fellow judges.
Isn't the presidential pardon a sufficient escape hatch for these one in a billion ticking time bomb hypotheticals?

scary stuff, cm. but not as outrageous after i read the article. a fellow panelist presented Jack Bauer as a hypothetical scenario, not scalia. i still don't agree with scalia; mr arar's lawyer shot him down pretty good. but it's interesting to think about. i especially liked the reporter ending the article by copying and pasting IMDB quotes from JB.
There's a new book out written by one of the Guantanamo defense lawyers that looks interesting - can't remember name/title, was just reviewed in the Economist though. Anyway, the author's a staunch critic of the ticking bomb scenario, argues that the entire Kennedy administration was a 'ticking bomb era' and we never resorted to Jack Bauer tactics...
CM/Flee: are you Vegas locals yet? Get any of these questions? http://vegasblog.latimes.com/vegas/2007/06/vegas_questions.html
Wow, CM actually already commented on that. I would be disappointed to think that he and flea DON'T have restaurant recommendations for guests, though.
I do. I have them in spades. But most of them aren't on the Strip.
the only things i would add are:
8: people born in NV, in a freak of statistics, are an identical set to people who hold an elected or appointed office;
7: "I gamble a little"
6: we can get you free tickets to the largest sex club in the world
4: you can score with a stripper if you start with #6 and then co-write/transcribe her amorphous 'stripper with a heart of gold' screenplay.
