i saw this in front of transformers the other day. what bugged me is that it loses you in the first minute and a half. you tune out completely, because who cares about a bunch of shot-by-a-drunk-partygoer footage of some dork who's moving out of town? by the time the "cool" part starts, you've zoned out, and are totally confused when you come back in.
i hope it's better than that, and not some lame signs-blair-witch combo.
it's JJ, so i should feel more confident, but i didn't see mi:3, so i don't know how he translates.
Pretty unsettling. At some point don't you think it will get annoying to see an entire film told through a shaky, hand-held camera? Or that it might be a bit hard to believe that someone would record this the entire time whatever plot unfolds? Oh well, at least it is something new and not some terrible sequel or the crappy ass Transformers, which was horrible. As for JJ, he's not directing. MI3 was fun, but felt very TV movie at times.
Spoiler
It's Godzilla. I like the idea, but it makes me uncomfortable how much it reminds me of that documentary about September 11 shot by the two French brothers.
It seems pretty entertaining for like twenty minutes... then, eh.
godzilla? is that a joke?
also, NYA, transformers wasn't HORRIBLE. it was passable, and at times, kinda cool. i think my favorite aspect was that they didn't show autobots in the trailers (at least not the ones i saw), so it was kind of a surprise when it wound up being a very transformers-like movie. based on the decepticons in the promos, i thought they had just ripped off the idea and not in any way replicated the story.
All Mr. Bay had to do was make the big robots fight from the start. Instead, we get tons of random characters doing not much of anything, robots that I can't tell apart, section 7, hackers, cliche flashbacks where an old man with glasses makes a discovery in an ice cave(how many movies have done this?), asinine "comedy" bits where the transformers try to hide and bubblebee pisses on John Tuturro, and the robot that gets the most screen time is a gremlin that transforms into a boom box and, as far as I can tell, no one can see even if it is hiding behind your leg. And all Optimus Prime does is get his ass kicked by Megatron and then beg Shia to euthanize him with the allspark, which was LAME. I actually like Michael Bay, even if a lots of his films are crap, I always thought he had some cool action sequences. In this film I really couldn't tell what was going on or who was fighting who. I really didn't like it at all. At six I would have loved it.
i'm sorry, we saw different movies. I, for example, saw 2.5 hours of Megan Fox.
Now that, my friend, I can understand.
seriously, though, while i agree about too many characters (and the fbi/nsa storyline was unnecessary and anthony anderson was wasted and pointless), how can you not like turtorro popping up for no reason?
admittedly, the tie-in with independece-day style gov't-alien stuff was needless. but what about the cell-phone bit? i liked the idea and the implementation of that particular concept.
anyway, i did in a 4-fer on saturday. no way was it the best of the 4, but it was a close 3rd.
ps. crazymonk, is there a way to add a spellcheck, or at least let us edit our comments after posting? i'm tired of looking like an idiot when i type too fast.
Firefox has a spellchecker built in. You should get Firefox.
I have to agree with Anonymous. Plus, there's a preview button, so feel free to use that if you don't trust your first instincts.
i'm on vista. as of when i bought this machine, firefox and vista hated the shit out of each other.
good point about the preview.
i just want YOU to do all the work for me, cm.
