Mr. Wizard dead

Don Herbert, AKA Mr. Wizard, died this morning. According to his Wikipedia article, he once opened a Mr. Wizard center outside of Boston (now closed). Did anyone here ever go there?

I always thought an interesting paper would be comparing the kids who watched Mr. Wizard and the kids who watched Beakman's World. Basically the same shows, but oh so different. I LOVED Mr. Wizard and to him I say thanks and RIP.

I like that this blog actually has a sense of place.

that comparison is unfair: beakman came along waaaaay later, and owes a great debt to mr. wizard. also; are you suggesting beakman was lacking? i loved beakman!

a better comparison would be beakman to bill nye, who was just a waste of space.

No, my point is that Mr. Wizard was a very quite, gentle show. I liked Beakman's World, but it was full of costumes and crazy sfx and camera shots to keep kids attention. I was just trying to say that the two shows illustrate how different little kids are in the 90's as compared to the 80's.

I've never seen Beakman's world, but I really enjoyed Mr. Wizard's World. RIP
