Interview with the sole survivor of Heaven's Gate

The LA Weekly has an interesting interview with the sole survivor of the Heaven's Gate cult, known for their Hale-Bopp-inspired mass suicide of 39 members. The 10th anniversary of the suicide is this Monday, and he's still a believer.

Wow, this is a mess of an article. It's hard to weed through this thing for a succinct story.

The LA Weekly can be a bit self-indulgent. Alt-weeklies can be important platforms for stories left out of mainstream papers, but sometimes I do want to smack their writers.

considering what even our paper of record is going through (grazer-gate!), it's no surprise the second (or third) rung isn't quite up to snuff. sigh. (LA) times like these only serve to reinforce the anti-intellectual stereotype of this city.

i'm not sure -gate should be applied to non-political scandals.

yeah, i've seen the term before. i just don't like the generalized snowclone.

Snowclones? We don't need no stinkin' snowclones! I always say the only good snowclone is a dead snowclone.

I so want to get my hands on that screenplay. I imagine it would be like Battlefield Earth but better.

Connecticut Anthony | Sat, 03/24/2007 - 8:47pm

By that do you mean not as bad as Battlefield Earth, or more ridiculous than BE?

The Rodenator | Sun, 03/25/2007 - 4:22pm

I mean more ridiculous, but no where nearly as good as Be (by which I mean bad)
