David Simon and Ed Burns on the Iraq War

Ed Burns and David Simon, the creators behind HBO's now-recognized-as-the-best-show-ever The Wire, are developing for HBO a seven episode scripted miniseries following Marines in the early days of the Iraq invasion. I hope they bring the same subtly and complex realism that they've carried The Wire on. (via aicn)

Keep watching! You'll be floored by how much better it gets.

Yes, there's one more season to come. Season 4 just finished airing on HBO a few months ago.

The seasons can be described thematically with the following large brush strokes:

Season 1: the relationship between urban life and authority
Season 2: the working class
Season 3: reform
Season 4: education
Season 5: the media

Season 3 was politics for sure. And the overall theme of the show is the death of American cities.
