Michael Heizer's City

Out in the rural deserts of Eastern Nevada, Michael Heizer is building City, one of the largest contemporary earthworks projects ever constructed. (It's about the size of the D.C.'s National Mall.) Access to City requires a 4-WD and an invitation, since Heizer doesn't plan to open the massive artwork to the public until it is completed (~2010). Here are 4-WD driving directions to Double Negative, another one of his works out in the Nevada desert built in the early 1970's and open to the public.

I keep meaning to mention that my grandfather was a printer, and back when Heizer was young and broke my grandfather ran some prints for him in exchange for copies of some of the work. So there are a few lithographs hanging at my grandmother's which are pretty cool, and there was always this large photo of another huge sculpture in my parents' basement when I was growing up- looked similar to City judging by the photos, but not so rough looking. I can't remember the title right now.
