Stardust closes today

The Stardust Resort and Casino, the model for the Scorsese film Casino and the site of the best neon sign on the Strip, officially closed down today, to be replaced by the much fancier Echelon Place. Implosion date, if at all, still unknown. I just hope that the beautiful sign is preserved somehow, perhaps at the Neon Graveyard.
And the last long lap is the hardest,
And I shall be dumped where the weed decays,
And the rest is rust and stardust. --Nabokov

okay - but did you hear that fucking PRINCE is opening up a hotel in vegas?!
vegas just became my new #1 travel destination, after not even being a blip on the top-25 list. call me when it's fucking PURPLE.
It's a new club he's opening, not a hotel. The Rio has been around for years:

R.I.P. Stardust, my favorite Vegas sign. Is that the picture we took when I was there?
yes, ma'am.
My abuelo Pedro was a bartender at the Stardust for years. I remember when I was very young he took me and my brother to the Christmas celebration that the casino gave for the worker's children. It was a long time ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I do recall that - in true Las Vegas style - the grand finale featured a trained elephant.
I misinterpreted your question, pipsqueak. We took a similar picture, but the one above is from someone else.
well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse ME!
it's still fucking prince. and he's still doing some serious SHIT.
misinterpreter!
