2006 "Genius" Grants awarded

The 2006 MacArthur Fellows, also known as the "Genius" grants, have been announced. Once again Yahoo Serious has been overlooked, but you may recognize such winners as John Zorn, writer George Saunders, and Luis von Ahn, inventor of CAPTCHA's.

David Macauley? I like his stuff, sure, but isn't he a little old and established for this (I know, I know, there's no such constraint in the selection criteria, but what good does an unbound reward to an already well-off and well-established figure do?)? Just more evidence that the genius grants are a modern-day secret society and the real purpose is to save genetic material or something weird like that.
