Slavoj Žižek on the historical meaning of 9/11

Political philosopher Slavoj Žižek on the historical meaning of 9/11.

As President Bush said after September 11, America is in a state of war. But the problem is that the US is not in a state of war. For the large majority, daily life goes on and war remains the business of state agencies. The distinction between the state of war and peace is blurred. We are entering a time in which a state of peace itself can be at the same time a state of emergency.

Frederic Jameson on Zizek's new book, if you're into that sort of thing:

I have to read Welcome to the Desert of the Real for class- um, this week if I'm not mistaken. That's the book he wrote right after 9/11, I believe. I've only read essays and seen him speak (HIGHLY entertaining), so I'm curious to see how I feel engaging in a text-length Zizek. Thanks for the link, CM, I'm interested to see what he has to say.
