Opening Shots Quiz

Jim Emerson, web editor of rogerebert.com and blogger, has put up an Opening Shots Quiz on his blog. The idea is this: name the film based on a still image of its opening shot. If you do really well at it, try the other quiz, which is much harder.

I got two on the easy test, and zero on the hard test. I guess this isn't my game.

I sucked at it. But I think it will heighten my awareness of opening shots.

I only got two on the "easy" one, but I got seven on the second one. I thought it was much easier, but you really need to love older films for these tests.

Did you get Blade Runner and La Dolce Vita on the easy one, too?

I think I made a little mistake. I got seven on the easy one, including Blade Runner and La Dolce Vita, the latter only because I figured - "hey, a black and white film that takes place in Rome, must be La Dolce Vita." And I got 2 on the hard test. My mistake, I was tired.

Crazymonk, did you see Superman yet? I need to hear your opinion.

No, not yet, although I watched the first 45 minutes of the original last night on HBO on Demand. Weird movie.

I was not a big fan of Superman, for a number of reasons. It was pointed out to me locally that my objections are possibly objections to all Superman movies, but they seemed especially apparent this time.

The bad guy's goal made no sense... his plan was without any logical merit.

I thought the huge flying cross was the giveaway in La Dolce Vita, in addition to being in black and white.
