The Movie You've Seen the Most
Slate asked a collection of filmmakers and critics to name the movie they've seen the most. E.g., Spike Lee's is West Side Story, and Neil Labute's is Barry Lyndon. (Excluding movies like It's a Wonderful Life.) Here's my own breakdown:
< age 13: The Goonies (easily over 100 times); Die Hard; Clue
ages 13-18 12 Monkeys; Goodfellas; Fargo; A Clockwork Orange
> age 18: The Big Lebowski; Princess Mononoke; Koyaanisqatsi, Vertigo
in the theater: Lawrence of Arabia (4?); City of Lost Children (3)

As a kid, obviously I watched the same films as you, but don't forget to add to that Monster Squad, which we watched a million times, and which is STILL not on DVD. But Goonies takes the cake. We watched that thing again and again.
I've seen Goodfellas, Lebowski, and Fargo a million times. I've seen Total Recall, Robocop and Starship Troopers many times. I watched Newsies twice when I rented it, and again the next day with crazymonk when he came home. And since then, let's just say I understand Newsie's Fan Fiction all too well.
And I saw Pulp Fiction around seven times in the theater, in fact I saw it twice in it's opening night. I also, I am ashamed to say, saw Star Wars I three times in the theater (I wanted to see a digital print). And it sucked each and every time.
Twice opening night? I don't remember that. Geez.
But yes to Monster Squad. Yes, indeed.
NYA - is that a subtle hint at your desire for more newsies fan fiction fan fiction?
i remember being in possession of your monster squad made-from-hbo vhs for about a year. i miss it. perhaps in that same vein - "the wizard" will finally be arriving on dvd in a few months. apparently theyve figured out how to license both all the NES footage and the new kids on the block songs. huzzah!
"don't be chicken shit!"
goonies is definitely up there. but i believe my personal best is having seen "Ghostbusters" 28 times.
and on the greyhound to boston i saw jackie chan's "around the world in 80 days" 3 times! the governator has a cameo as a turkish prince who attempts to abduct the femme fatale and sexually abuse her.....
I've never really been one for obsessively watching movies. As a kid, it was usually see it in the theater, then watch it once again on tape.
Barring Christmas movies, I would say that I have watched the original Star Wars movies, some James Bond flick, or some action flick the most. Or maybe Fear, which I watched a ton.
Most times in a theater would be: Pulp Fiction and There's Something About Mary at 3 each.
Much harder to track, but more intriguing to me, would be what song I have heard the most. Also how many times does one need to hear a song for it become really familiar or for it to seem overplayed? I probably haven't really heard it that many times, but I never need to hear "American Pie" again.
Movies seen most: The Muppet Movie, Real Genius, The Big Lebowski, Simple Men. The first two are from my childhood, but I still watch them occasionally.
Song heard most: I suspect it's "Blue Monday" by New Order. It was on one of the first tapes I ever bought, and I've listened to it even more times than I otherwise would because I love the video and because it gets played in clubs occasionally. So yeah, probably that.
In the early days of mp3 trading, though, I listened to a shit-ton of Soul Coughing and They Might Be Giants bootlegs, so if there's a song that either of those bands played at every single show, it's probably in the running too.
I'm sorry to say that "Dogma" is on my list of movies seen way too many times. Also, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Breakfast Club" and, I suppose, "Lebowski" since I moved to LA. I tend to reread a lot more than I rewatch.
Yes, Ferris Bueller should be on my list as well.
ferris bueller (which i saw again last night), monster squad, and the wizard (which i have a bootleg from ebay) make my list. i don't usually watch movies more than once or twice. i think there are less than 5 movies that i've gone out of my way to watch 4 or more times.
then there's the random movies like "men at work," "the money pit", "brewster's millions" and "weekend at bernie's" that come on ALL the time on TV. those are the ones that i've watched like 10 times.
