Jonestown Death Tape

Forty minute audio recording of the Jonestown Massacre. This is very much not for the faint of heart. If you want to know more, here's the Wikipedia entry on the massacre. (thx, d2k+1 & je)

Coolest thing about the wikipedia entry is the info about Flavor Aid not Kool Aid being used. I have to get me some Flavor Aid, as I have never had it.

am i the only one who would have a hard time taking my life when encouraged to do so by someone with a lisp?

Would it actually be the lisp that had you thinking twice?

6.4 equals makeout.

Crazymonk, when I first saw this entry-- I thought it was a recording of the Johnstown flood... which I thought was really strange. But I wanted to listen at some point.. So when I read the Wikpedia entry, I was fascinated. I had never heard about this before. I'm kind of scared to listen to the audio though. I'd like to see the film footage (of the plane attack) if you can find that. I am also curious what the followers of this cult actually believed in.

Once I had some time, I found this link: http://jonestown.sdsu.edu/

It gives an FAQ about the group... pretty interesting stuff. Listening to the audio recording is pretty eery. I skipped around, and definitely hearing the sounds of the frightened children is pretty creepy.

Thanks, Slater. I learned from the FAQ the real tragedy of Jonestown:

"Mr. Muggs, the Jonestown chimpanzee, was shot twice and died a few days later."

Yes. A tragedy. We should not speak of it again. It will be the white elephant in the room.

I love that Jackie Spier, who is running for Liet. Gov. in CA, mentions that she survived Jonestown in her campaign ads. I must go vote for her. I just wish she had been the children of cult members as that would have been cooler than just be a Congressional aide.
