Three Tracks from the eraser

Three tracks from Thom Yorke's new album, the eraser. I like the third track the best -- yup, the one that isn't marked "highly recommended." (via kottke)

i agree. i wasn't terribly fond of the first track. it seemed incomplete.

i am really excited by this! the lack of greenwood's guitar input sets it apart from a radiohead-ish feel. i can't choose my favorite of the 3; they're all beautiful.

when's the next radiohead album coming?

What I liked best about the first is the sheer control you can here in the vocals. People who get all hung up on Radiohead being too weird / or not experimental enough / or never making another OK Computer forget THAT VOICE, which, such as it is, is heavenly. The in-yr-head noise-free close miking on the vocal in that one makes it for me. It's so close to you, yet it floats so freely.

Musically, I have to say all of these are nice with the skittering beats and such but it's not anything we haven't heard before. I have to say I miss the drums and the different textures and options they provide -- the music just seems static, where a lot of what I like about Radiohead is the grand, sweeping progressions. The lack of Jonny's guitar doesn't really make much of a difference to me as he was working with a lot of synths and MAX patches over the last few records anyway. About half of that material was done without his guitar.

Ahh, wish I could edit. Like a jackass, I typed in the wrong "hear." ("here"). Unlike me.
