The New World, Revisited

Slate proclaims the subtle greatness of Terrence Malick's The New World, recently released on DVD. Here's my praise of the theatrical release. Will the fully-restored version be released? (Along with, for that matter, the rumored six-hour version of The Thin Red Line?)

I should go find the dudes who saw The Thin Red Line with us, as I am sure they'll want to see the 6 hour version.

Kinda. I've actually never seen The New World. But I didn't much Like Thin Red line, and the thought of it being six hours long was just too much.

I really enjoyed the Thin Red Line. Thought it was better than Saving Private Ryan in fact (and for those of you who know how much of a Spielberg enthusiast I am, that is a huge claim for me to make.) I would love to see a six hour version. I haven't seen the New World yet, but would like too.

I heard that Spielberg is working on a 13-hour version of Saving Private Ryan. That includes a 4-hour long shot of Tom Hanks's hand shaking.

Ha ha ha. Very funny.
