On Da Vinci Christianity

The New York Times on Da Vinci Christianity. I think every student should be taught the historical side of Early Christianity -- perhaps then they would realize that the central tenets of Christianity weren't really defined until the First Council of Nicaea in 325. It'd almost be like creating the US Constitution today based on oral and written stories of the Founding Fathers -- imagine the biases and disagreements.

No, no. Just a theme. In any case, I don't think they need my help.

I saw it tonight, they got my ten bucks. Really, I just want them to make a movie of Angels and Demons, which was a better book (although very similar in style, as are all of his books).

Yegads, one of things they decided at the Council was:

"1. prohibition of self-castration; (see Origen)"

Was that necessary? I haven't heard anything about that before. If it wasn't so late I'd read that story.

Well another thing students would learn if they were actually taught the early history of christianity is that there were some crazy fuckers back then.
