Siskel vs. Ebert
When Gene Siskel died, Roger Ebert wrote that they became great friends only after a long period of intense hatred. Watch the sparks fly in this 1987 video of the duo trying to tape a promo:

I'm having a hard time watching the whole thing, the connection is slow, but what was GREAT was when Siskel goes on and on about how they should zoom in on them so they're more visible during commercials, and the cameraman zooms in like .01%.
Classic.
"What about the INTERNATIONAL BANKERS!?"
"What about the VATICAN!?"
What's the deal with that rant about protestants? Jeez... Siskel is crazy!
Why am I the only person who found this amusing?
Well, I did, obviously.
I did too. Wow, Ebert was fat. And wow, they were both huge dicks to each other. I am glad Ebert mellowed since then. Ebert victorious.
The real victims in all of this: Randy and Dennis Quaid.
True, Ebert is very apathetic about the distinctness of those two poor souls.
i'm trying to watch it. it's so frigging slow. ebert was on the daily show last week and they wasted over half the interview talking about stupid shit that had nothing to do with movies. then, when they did start talking about movies, they ran out of time. i was puh-issed.
ps does anyone else think the source of the hatred was ebert's resentment at the title being "siskel and ebert?" i mean, why did that even happen? it's not even alphabetical! i think ebert did kill siskel. killed him with cancer. ebert victor/victorious.
"gotta have energy up. please get your energy up."
jesus, this would have been a brilliant example of performance art if they'd ever been more public about it. i mean, can't you see andy kaufman coming up with this idea of a short, fat critic and a tall, bald critic getting into childish fights?
"the way he said thumbs up, the way he said thumbs down, the way he said... goodbye."
ok, last thing. the anti-protestant bit is hilarious and it's nice to see the two of them bonding, a jew and a catholic versus the white power structure (not nearly a tapped-enough subject matter in 70's film) -- but it's even better that immediately afterwards, siskel has to promo steve martin and "roxanne." it only could have been better if it had been the same week as the "robocop" one.
All I can say is:
WHAT ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL BANKERS!?!?
