Progressives, Liberty, and Security

Edward Lazarus dishes out some bad-tasting medicine, addressing why progressives are having such a hard time gaining credibility when it comes to national security. I can't say I agree with all of his arguments, but he's pushing the debate into the right direction.

I read through the article and he
does have some inciteful thoughts--
on the other hand, he seems more
to be advocating manipulative tactics
than proposing any solutions himself..
and the merry-go-round continues.

Yeah, but I think his point is that the solutions presented are mostly OK, the problem is (mostly) with the tactics.

"Progressives should become conservative rabble-rousers on things that don't matter, like free speech and sexual liberty, as a way to shift the national debate away from conservative rabble-rousing on things that really do matter, like whether we should drop a zillion bombs on Osama Bin Laden or a double gazillion. Otherwise, Democrats will never live down the reputation for opposing the President's agenda that they acquired by going along with the President's agenda."
