Apocalypto Trailer
The trailer for Mel Gibson's Apocalypto is up. I'm an ancient history nerd, so even though I have no clue what this movie is about, I'm intrigued because it involves the Incan Mayan civilization. But with the terrible Passion of the Christ as Gibson's last film, I have to be skeptical about his intentions in spending his endless cash on something called Apocalypto.

Welcome to the suck.
Such an odd vanity project! It appears that Mel Gibson will become the master of making movies that are in dead languages.
I'm not a big fan of Mel Gibson's religious views, but
the trailer made the movie look pretty good to me.
As an undergraduate student with a focus on the ancient Maya, I'm intrigued but extremely worried that this movie will disappoint. I've read in some places that it takes place 3000 years ago, in other places 6000 years ago, which makes little sense because the Maya were not the great civilization we all love until about 2000 years ago (Classic period being between 250-900 AD). Plus he might be using the modern decendent languages, but we don't really know the ancient language of the inscriptions fluently.
One more thing, the Maya believe the next apocalypse is supposed to take place on December 21, 2012, so I guess it makes sense to make the movie with that title, but maybe more appropriate in a few more years?
Yup. That's the date of the alien invasion from X-files as well.
