Top 20 Geek Novels

Jack Schofield of the Guardian holds a vote for the Top 20 Geek Novels. I've read 10 of them and intend to read a few more, so I guess that makes me a geek. On Slashdot, where I found this link, people are complaining about the lack of Flatland or anything Tolkein. Ah Slashdot, once the master of the geek domain, soon to be living under the shadow of digg.

not dune.

i'd say watchmen, then illuminatus! trilogy.

I couldn't get through Dune. I adored Microserfs, though. I adore most of what Douglas Coupland does.

I'm ashamed that I didn't even recognize two of the books on the list. ("Consider Phlebas" and "Trouble With Lichen") On to the reading list they go.

Incidentally, if anyone was desperate to start reading Terry Pratchett books, I would start Small Gods, not the Colour of Magic.

It was the first one I read and does a pretty good job of sucking you into the world with a strong god-heavy story.

i couldn't read the link. was "the dark tower" series on there? should be.

also, "american gods" is bitchin'.

no dark tower, probably because it's slightly too mainstream to be truly geeky. same goes for lord of the rings these days.

I haven't read the colour of magic nor the man in the high castle, but i have read the rest of what doorframe mentioned. The Illumintus! i've read most of but not all. and i've read only part of dune. i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one to dislike dune.
