Harriet Miers Jumps the Shark

Could Miers be a strategic trick? Are the Conservatives going to shoot her down (or will she withdraw) so they can replace her with a more conservative, more credentialed nominee who will be difficult to defeat in the Senate? Will there be a sigh of relief when Priscilla Owens is nominated instead?

We can all acknowledge that Bush doesn't mind looking silly, but the administration is not currently in a good position to play these sorts of games. With all the messes swirling around Bush (Katrina, Rove, DeLay, Frist, Iraq, etc) he doesn't need another one... especially one that makes him look exceedingly weak within his own party. This wasn't strategic, it was just a mistake.
